Elga's Wonderful World of Writing
Elga Haymon has been a 'writer' since she was a child. From her earliest years of remembrance, she has written poetry and little short stories.
Since her first published work, a series of three books, titled INTERNET INSIGHTS…A Collection of Writings--writings which were not her own--articles, stories, items, and 'tid-bits' taken from the Internet and from E-mails sent to her by family and friends, she has decided to publish her own writings.
Elga says, "It is time that I create my own 'living, breathing characters,' so that readers get to know this author as a 'real person' in her real writing environment."
This, readers can do as they read her book, Heart-to-Heart, which is written for youth--adults will also enjoy it. The book, containing five short stories, is written with the warmth, feeling, and understanding that Elga has always had for teens and youth.
Stories are written in different settings and about different characters. These characters instantly 'come to life,' as Elga deftly wields her pen on the pages of Heart-to-Heart. She invites you to share the love, the adventures, the heartaches, the mystery, the disappointments, the joys... the lives of these characters. You will feel that you know them 'up close and personal'--some characters you will love, some you will like, others you will dislike… that's human nature.
Along with the characters, experience the many aspects and phases of emotions you will encounter as you read this exciting book!

The fourth of nine children, Elga Bernice Haymon, was born into a Southern minister’s home. An avid reader and a lover of books and poetry from childhood, she was often asked by her younger sisters and brothers to, “Read this story to me, please,” or, “Will you read this book to us?”
With everyone sitting on the ‘plain board floor,’ the children gathered around Elga and the pot-bellied stove, the ‘centerpiece’ of the living room, and Elga would read ‘this story’ or ‘this book’ to them.
The greatest fun, though, was when Elga ‘made up stories’ and told them to the children. Her vivid imagination and emphasis on certain words and different parts of the story, kept the children occupied for hours...
From her youngest remembrance, she wrote little short stories and poetry, putting them in folders and hiding them away under her bed, never again to see the light of day... or so she thought!
Many years later, in 1995, a visit from Elga’s sister, Olgia V. Hines, from Phoenix, and her daughter, Sheryl Hines Flournoy, also a writer, gave her an opportunity to let Sheryl read some of her poems. Both Sheryl and her mother urged Elga to enter a poetry contest being advertised at that time. She entered her poem, Rhapsody of Nature, into the contest and to her delight, the poem was accepted!
In the fall of 1997, she was nominated and accepted as a Distinguished Member of The International Society of Poets. She was nominated as Poet of the Year for 1997 at the Seventh Annual International Society of Poets Symposium and Convention, held in Washington, D. C. She was inducted into the International Poetry Hall of Fame the same year. Her web site may be viewed on the World Wide Web at:

In March 2001, with over 100 poems, the beginning of two novels, and several short stories to her credit, Elga finally ‘got up enough nerve’ and decided to ‘go on her own’... she published her first book, titled, Internet Insights... A Collection of Writings. The book, as it turned out, became the first edition in a three-book series.
The content of Internet Insights... contain interesting and innovative stories, exciting articles, political and health issues, and ‘tiny tidbits,’ taken from the Internet and e-mails from family and friends.
Internet Insights 2... was published in 2002. This edition is dedicated to the families and victims of September 11, 2001. The lead stories and poems feature that fateful day in our American history.
The third edition, Internet Insights 3..., is a tribute to our men and women in the Armed Forces. Also, in this issue you can read the full testimony of Darrell Scott—Elga’s nephew—who was invited to testify before the Judiciary Committee in Washington, D. C., following the shooting at Columbine High School. Rachel Joy Scott, Darrell’s daughter, was a victim of the Columbine High School shooting.
In 2002, The Famous Poets Society invited Elga to become a member, and her poem, A Morning Stroll, appears in their 2002 anthology, New Millennium Poets.
The year, 2005, was a busy year for Elga... she published three books: Pure Rhapsody... Inspirational Poetry and Prose, her own writings; Heart-to-Heart ~ Stories for the Young at Heart...; also, A Children’s Christmas Duo ~ Once Upon a Christmas... and Christmas in the... Land of Elsewhere. Besides the two stories, this unique children’s book features a Coloring Section for the child to color, and an Activity Section for the child to complete.
Elga’s next project will be another children’s book, A Children’s Adventure Duo... Thad, the Sailor and Little Miss Lavender. This book will contain the sections mentioned above, and should be available to the public by Christmas sales of 2006.

“An artist paints a picture with paints, canvas, an easel, and a brush; a writer paints a picture with a pen and words alone.”
